I know, it's a hard one. It's a French Canadian name, that is why we incorporated the fleur-de-lis into a logo. Yeah, that's not a fun word to pronounce either. But let's start with "Charboneau" and break it down.
Char. It's pronounced with an "Sh" sound. I can't tell you how many times people try to spell it with an "Sh" because that's what it sounds like. Think of the toilet paper, "Charmin" and drop the "min." This is the syllable that gets the emphasis.
Bo. This is "bow" like "bow and arrow." Some people pronounce it more of a "bah," like a sheep would say. It's kind of in the middle of those and either way is fine. We won't kick you out of the studio no matter how you say it.
No. What you should say if we ask you come over and clean the studio.
And there you have it! Now you can speak as much French as we can!
For as long as I can remember, I have always loved creating things, whether that was gardening, making my own clothes, hand quilting, making wine, painting. If someone was doing it, I wanted to do it too. That sense of euphoria I got when I completed a project and had a product to show for it is something I want everyone to experience. When I started going to classes for weaving and basketmaking, that feeling of creating made me even more proud because it was a skill that bordered on craftmanship. Not only was I gaining a new skill, but I was making something beautiful that would last a long time.
If I could trade places with anyone for a day, I would love to be Martha Stewart. She has her fingers in absolutely everything and it all looks beautiful! My goal in setting up this studio is to have a space where I can create and learn and to pass that off to students to be able to create and learn. I want you to go home from each class feeling that sense of pride in your creation!
John is the financial wizard, webmaster and media manager behind the concept of Charboneau Studios. He really wants to pick up a creative hobby but he shines in the things he is good at, which is turning all of the crazy concepts and ideas into solid, workable things. He works hard to see the vision and make it happen. John may help with classes and he has his own little man cave in the office where he likes to hang out so say hi if you are lucky enough to catch him!
This is my mom. However, she is not a fan of other people calling her "mom." Only I can call her that. So make sure you call her "Faye."
Faye has been creating and crafting since before there were cell phones (true story) and Google was running on candlelight. (hee hee, sorry, Mom!) But seriously, that lady has more sewing and crafting experience in her thumb than most people do in their lifetime. Because we grew up in the woods of Arkansas as Mennonites, Faye really understood that necessity is the mother of invention. (None of us are Mennonite anymore in case you are wondering.)
Faye will be bringing in her sewing and might teach an occasional class. Her specialties are tea and baking so look for some events involving those things!
